What do you do when you are sick?

Posted at 10:58 am under Health & Body

Oh I’ve missed you guys!  I’ve been sick for almost 2 weeks.  Acccckkkk!

But, I’m almost back to full health…no wait…allow me to reframe:

I AM BACK TO FULL HEALTH!!!!

I am full of energy.  And I am full of joy and appreciation for a pain-free throat and a clear nose that I can breathe through.  Woohoo!  It feels good to be back to my usual sense of gratitude and endless possibilities.

So I’m curious.  What do you do when you are sick? Do you give yourself the time and space to recover? Or do you beat yourself up for needing the down time?  It’s such a challenge isn’t it?!

I’ve gotta admit that last week I bounced back and forth in between nurturing my body and attacking myself for not being able to do everything I had scheduled and wanted to do.  But, this is what I know:

When the body needs rest and recuperation, the body needs rest and recuperation.

And in the future whenever I am in less than full health, I am willing to commit to give myself full permission to clear my schedule, rest, and nurture my body.  The sooner I take care of me, the sooner I can get back to my regularly scheduled life!

    Hi Cassandra,

I am sorry to hear you are under the weather. Funny you should ask that because there have been a sum of 2 separate days when I went into full shut down mode. I mean: stay in my bedroom, pajamas, no shower and either sleep or watch movies. Did I mention no human contact? Sorry, I love people, but sometimes we go into overload! My roommate actually thought I was experiencing depression. But as you say: when your body needs rest, your body needs rest. And teaching a bunch of high schoolers can really drain you. I would rather spend a day or two seriously resting than spend 2 weeks fighting a cold or flu I got from pushing my body to the limits. I am happy to say, besides my shut down days, I did not spend a day of winter sick (which is rare for me!) I was completely healthy during our Spring break which enabled me to get alot of work done! God bless,
    Gina

I’m so glad your back to full health!

I think we have become a society where work is more important then health. Perhaps that is why we beat ourselves up when we are forced to take down time.
The simple truth is that we need our health in order to work. So we get sick, no big deal. Its just our body telling us something is wrong and we must take some time.

    Andrea
